Google Earthiness
Placemarks, overlays, and network links for use with Google Earth. Download to disk and double-click to open them in Google Earth, or just click to open them directly, if your browser is configured suitably (see below).
- My photos (network link) - selected geotagged photos from my library
- Twin Peaks walking routes - Variations on a hike
- Big Dig - plans from Boston's "Big Dig" megaproject (work in progress)
- Mann Gulch fire - a map of the 1949 Montana firefighting tragedy, made famous by the song "Cold Missouri Waters," overlaid on Google Earth's terrain model, if you're interested in that sort of thing (details are in the overlay)
- Lakes and islands - amusing collection showing the biggest island in a lake, biggest lake on an island in a lake, et cetera ad infinitum
Downloading hints for moderately advanced users: To have KML and KMZ files open directly in Google Earth, make sure your browser recognizes the MIME types application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xml and application/vnd.google-earth.kmz and associates them with Google Earth. If your browser doesn't allow that or makes it very difficult (I'm talking to you, Safari), just download the files and open them manually.
